Affordability of New Drugs and Strategies and Funding of Clinical Trials

QMI and QMUL were co-sponsors of an event in the One Nucleus Life Science Leadership Series on the subject of the Affordability of New Drugs and Strategies and Funding of Clinical Trials. The event was held at Chesterford Research Park, near Cambridge, on 24 September 2015. The event included speakers from: Scrip Intelligence, pharma and biotech, charities and government/regulatory bodies.

The affordability of innovative new medicines is an increasingly debated topic within the Healthcare and Pharmaceutical industries. The rise of regulatory hurdles, population demographics and potential fragmentation of markets are challenging the systems of all healthcare providers and payers. They combine to create a huge incentive to render drug development more efficient in order to reduce the cost of goods.

Professor Tom Macdonald of QMUL chaired a lively panel session, including Dr Ellen Thomas of Genomics England, to discuss these issues.
